The tour starts in the morning from Piazza della Stazione: from here you will head towards the old Vallo walls, ancient city fortifications dating back to the Middle Ages, walk down the ancient Via Bovara, full of small artisan shops.
You will arrive at Piazza Cermenati, overlooking the historic lakeside promenade, where once stood the Art Nouveau grand hotel, the boat landing stage and Palazzo delle Paure, so called because taxes were collected in the past. From here we climb the staircase to the San Nicolò bell tower, one of the tallest in Italy. You can reach the top of the bell tower to admire the entire city from above, the lake and the mountains almost 100 metres above the ground.
Once down, your destination is the golfetto di Lecco, where you will board a boat that will take you to discover the city from another perspective, from the water. You will go as far as the statue of San Nicolò, the city's patron saint, and then head towards the two bridges and walk along the stretch of shoreline where the lake becomes a river, passing under the Ponte Vecchio, or Azzone Visconti bridge, dating back to 1300. You will finally arrive at the ancient colourful fishing village of Pescarenico, where you can see the site of the famous scene of the Addio ai monti. It was here that Lucia Mondella had to say goodbye to her hometown to head for Milan.
Once back at the departure pier, walk through the town centre, passing Piazza XX Settembre, with its typical bars and outdoor tables, (keep your eye on the Viscontea tower, the only well-preserved example of the Middle Ages left in the town centre), walk along Via Roma to reach Piazza Manzoni, from here you will continue back towards the lake to walk to the village of Pescarenico, where you will eat a typical local dish, immediately afterwards you will wander through the narrow streets of the historic quarter to visit the old convent of Padre Cristoforo.
Finally you will walk back to the station admiring the lake and mountains from the shore and passing through the historic Piazza Garibaldi and Via Cavour.
